I have always custom built websites. But in this line of work you cant be blinkered - so what do i think of WordPress sites?
I think I might have been a bit defensive when people asked me about WordPress in the past. I've always custom built websites. Originally (way back) because it was the only option, then because I like the total flexibility it offered. And finally - an education in code and google taught me to understand the advantages of hand crafting code for maximum google benefit. But recently I’ve done a couple of WordPress sites. So what has been my experience?
I’d have to be an idiot not to offer WordPress as an option these days. But I will do it selectively. Perhaps on smaller projects to start with. It’s not for everyone and it’s not the no brainer everyone says it is.
If a web business fell under a bus today - both the custom build and the WordPress customers would have issues. At the end of the day your choice of how to build your site should be based on what you want to achieve with your site and whether you can you find a designer you can trust... like me!
