We all want our businesses to be the very best they can be online. Of course 100 businesses cannot be on page 1 of Google.
I never hide the elephant in the room from my customers. I never over promise on performance. I set realistic goals and create plans for the journey to success – short and long!
I don’t say to my customers “we are going to take over the world in a day” (well hardly ever ;) ), neither do I say “you’re going to have to settle for an average website and an average performance”. There are obvious tactics that can help you achieve great things even in a busy online world. But a plan is what is needed.
It all starts with your customers.
What you need is a clear strategy and objectives. To have thought long and hard about your business before you begin constructing your site. That way it’s almost impossible to create a generic looking website –and of course that dramatically increases your differentiation.
The more you differentiate the more you can stand out and the more exposure you can get. If you think hard about a business you can often come up with clever niches or angles that others won’t have considered. After all, most designers, even in these competitive times, still go for the generic.
